The creative minds behind Snake Oil Cocktail Company announce the opening of JULEP, one of San Diego’s newest and largest multipurpose venues. Located at the base of Mission Hills in the heart of the city, Julep features a bright and expansive main hall with high gabled ceilings and 12,000+ square feet of flowing indoor-outdoor dining and event space. 

Founder and managing partner, Michael Esposito says, “For the past decade, Snake Oil Cocktail Company’s mixologists have continually pushed innovation with fresh new ingredients and flavor combinations, elevating the craft of cocktails to bring guests something they’ve never seen before. Opening JULEP gives us an opportunity to set the bar even higher, inspiring endless possibilities for people to create, connect, entertain and explore.”  

Located at 1735 Hancock St., JULEP’s cafe will begin serving delicious hot breakfast and lunch options starting in November. Local favorite, The WestBean Coffee Roasters, has been selected to curate JULEP’s specialty coffee program, which will include a collaboration with Snake Oil mixologists, Frankie Thaheld and Irving Gonzalez. Building on Snake Oil Cocktail’s reputation for creative cocktails, JULEP’s cafe program will offer a refreshing take on daytime coffee and tea inspired libations.

“JULEP is a communal space for San Diego’s event and creative community,” says Partner and Director of Mixology, Frankie Thaheld. “After years of working with the best, we are excited to build a central hub where our clients can collaborate and meet with event industry professionals, utilize AV-equipped meeting space and sprawl out in a welcoming indoor-outdoor environment. We are not your average assembly place–we don’t need to turn tables and hustle people out the door–we encourage guests to plug in, savor food, explore a daytime cocktail, and be creative all day long.” 

Originally built in 1976, the palatial building that is home to JULEP recently underwent a $2 million dollar renovation to overhaul the interior spaces to accommodate 500+ patrons. Improvements include a brand new standing seam roof, three roll-up doors connecting patio spaces to the interior, a smart HVAC system, upgraded prep kitchen, av-equipped private meeting rooms and retail storefront improvements. The space will also serve as the new headquarters of its spirited founders, Snake Oil Cocktail Company, as a jumping off point for offsite beverage catering and cocktail consulting services.
