Five Ways to Fiesta!
Our Best Tips for Summer Party Success
Being in San Diego and so close to Mexico, our California culture is sprinkled with history and influences from our southern neighbor. Whether you’re planning a Cinco de Mayo party, celebrating Mexican Independence Day this September, or just hosting a Mexican themed event this summer, we’ve put together five ways to make your fiesta a memorable one.
Before you and your guests indulge in festivities and sip that tequila, take a moment to remember what you’re celebrating! Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico’s unlikely win in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. A century later, celebrations of this event developed into the widely known Mexican-American holiday which we know and love.

Five Tips for A Fabulous Fiesta

Have Guests Dress Up! Keep in mind what is culturally appropriate and keep it classy. Bright colors, florals and patterns are traditional and a lot of fun.
Offer Multiple Specialty Cocktails. A classic margarita is always a festive favorite. Let Snake Oil bring a few twists like a grapefruit paloma, pitaya margarita or spicy mango marg! We’ll be sure to offer your guests salt or no salt while you’re sharing stories and connecting with friends.
Host a Guacamole Contest. What’s better than margaritas and guacamole? Having TONS of guacamole. Have guests bring their best dip and supply lots of corn chips. You can pick up bags of chips from from El Nopalito or El Indio.
Go to a Mexican Bakery and pick up a few traditional desserts or sweet breads (pan dulce) from Panchita’s. As a host, it’s one less thing to worry about and your guests will be raving about the authentic treats.
It’s not a party without Music! Use your Bose speaker system and choose a playlist from Spotify or pay a few extra bucks for a small mariachi band to play for the crowd for an hour. If your group is musically inclined, keep the guitar and drums out and encourage your friends to sing along.
Margaritas get our creative juices flowing – grapefruit, pitaya, spicy mango, blood orange – the possibilities are endless!
