Sunday, March 17th appears to be a quite the holiday this year, and we aren’t talking about St. Patrick’s Day… it’s Selection Sunday! You might think peanut butter and jelly is a combination that cannot be beat, but we’re here to tell you March Madness and a Snake Oil Bloody Mary Bar can top it all.

Haven’t heard of Selection Sunday? How about March Madness? Get ready, we’re about to make you a basketball fan! On March 17th, the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) selection committee will announce which teams will enter the basketball tournament. Formally called Selection Sunday, March 17th is the start of 67 college basketball games in a short 19 days – that’s a TON of basketball. March Madness is a gigantic single-elimination men’s basketball tournament for college athletes that carries out through the end of March. Everywhere you look, you’ll see March Madness happening, so why not take part in the fun? 

Whether it’s Selection Sunday or any day of March Madness, have the family over, friends, neighbors, even your biggest rivals. Let’s have a party! Before We Start

Why Bloody Mary, you ask? Did you know that it is not certain who came up with the original creation of a Bloody Mary, however over the past few decades it’s become America’s most popular day time cocktail. Chefs and bartenders around the nation are showing off unique ways to serve a Bloody Mary, mainly in their garnish game. Not only is the cocktail a healthy alternative, but depending on the garnishes you choose, it can be a full meal!

Below you’ll find a fun recipe for a Bloody Mary, but if you want the real deal, the Snake Oil Cocktail Company Captain Frank’s Bloody Mary, you’ll have to give us a call…

Ingredients

(Make Individually or Batch a Pitcher)

  • Celery or Himalayan Salt, Kosher Salt, Key Lime Salt, Sweet Corn Rimmer
  • 1 lemon wedge + 1 for garnish +  lime wedge + 1 for garnish
  • 4 ounces tomato juice
  • 2 ounces Vodka or Gin
  • 4 shakes of Tabasco
  • 3 shakes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons of prepared horseradish
  • Splash of pickle juice
  • Pinch black pepper
  • Skewer/Cocktail sword
  • Celery for garnish
  • Pickle for garnish
  • Other “garnish” possibilities; Shrimp, Oysters or Mussels, Steak Bites, Bacon, Cheese & Zucchini

  1. Sprinkle celery salt generously onto a small plate
  2. Moisten pint glass rim with one lemon or lime wedge
  3. Put rim on celery salt plate to coat the rim with the salt
  4. Fill the glass with ice
  5. In shaker, squeeze 1 lemon wedge and lime wedge into it
  6. Drop spent wedges into the shaker.
  7. Add vodka, tomato juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, pepper, and a splash of pickle juice into the shaker
  8. Lightly shake
  9. Strain into a pint glass
  10. Garnish with lemon, lime, olive, and celery stalk.
  11. Pepperoncini for garnish (optional)
  12. Beef stick (optional)
  13. For a sweeter spice, try using Sriracha chili sauce

Garnish Game

To really make the Bloody Mary bar unique, you’ll need to come up with some amazing garnishes. Aside from a great tasting cocktail, that’s what it’s all about, right? We’ve seen sliders, chicken and waffles, bacon, skewered shrimp, crab claws and every kind of pickle under the sun. What you serve with your Bloody is just as important.
