Modernism Week 2019 | Snake Oil Cocktail
Palm Springs Modernism Week with William Grant & Sons
Seasons may come and go, but there are certain events that our team at Snake Oil Cocktail especially love to celebrate year after year. Modernism Week is a ten day event in Palm Springs, CA which celebrates “Midcentury Architecture, Design and Culture.” After an extremely successful partnership with William Grant & Sons at last year’s event, we were proud and excited to bring our flair to the February 2019 guest experience. Modernism Week is a culmination of some of the best modern art and architecture, with William Grant spirits and our cocktails adding an extra splash of flavor to the mix!
Sights to See + Houses to Tour
During the 14th annual Modernism Week, residents of the Palm Springs community opened their homes to the public to tour some of the most interesting and innovative modern architecture. The festivities began on Valentine’s Day, giving homage to the “Modern Love” themed event at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort Clubhouse. Snake Oil Cocktail served a welcome drink with Hendrick’s Gin, smashed raspberries, fresh lemon, clove reduction, and egg white with an edible Hendrick’s design on top that incorporated the evening’s Pucci theme. Architect Moshe Safdie was the keynote speaker for the main presentation days following.
The primary home this year was the Modernism Week Show House, a refurbished home in the Indian Canyons neighborhood. Otherwise, four featured homes headlined the event, including “Green Gables”, “La Vie en Rose”, “Axiom Desert House”, and “Desert Eichler.”
William Grant + Snake Oil Cocktail
After enjoying long days of tours and exploration, the obvious next move for guests was refreshing with a specialty cocktail at the Sunrise Lanai. One of the featured beverages Snake Oil offered this year was called Permanent Vacation, a delicious blend of Sailor Jerry Rum, smashed passion fruit & pomegranate, almond, orange flower water, pressed citrus, island spice reduction, and angostura bitters. We served this cocktail in a freshly cracked branded coconut, highlighting the party’s sponsors SHAG and Sailor Jerry.
Two things are for sure – we take pride in our tiki cocktails, and we love to work with rum. If you’re curious about our 2018 festivities and cocktails, check out our event recap blog post from last year!
Bar Activations + Cocktail Graffiti
This year, we also joined SHAG for their annual in-store event. We wouldn’t be able to top last year without including our Cocktail Graffiti activation. Guests were welcomed with “SHAG” The Cocktail, composed of Hendrick’s Gin, coconut milk, applewood infusion, fresh ginger, pressed lemon, and egg white. We like to think of this as a great gin-tiki cocktail concept, elevated with an edible image on top.
Each year, the artist SHAG designs a commemorative art print for Modernism Week, showcasing the mid-century lifestyle; the artwork we featured on our graffiti cocktails highlighted his collectable piece. Other cocktail graffiti designs spotted at the event highlighted the ever-recognizable Hendrick’s logo. We love taking cocktail graffiti to large-scale events, and are able to accommodate 1000+ guests.
